You could always grab a hole repair kit. Just a small real thin metal screen you cut to size to fit over hole and coat with spackle then sand. Works well. :)

Hope you haven't allready went and bought another piece .... If you can take a piece of news paper and ball it up real hard till it fits the hole well and go get filler for drywall ( LOWES HARDWARE) carries it the news paper if done just right will hold filler in place when dry sand down even with wall and paint.... this works very wellif already replaced nevermind this just tried to help save you bunches of money and time

Forgot to mention that you could probably pick up a small piece of dry wall any where there is new construction, when pieces are cut the excess usually go to the dump. You can save the cost of a full sheet.
